Frontiers
A frontier is a boundary separating the known from the unknown – the real from the imagined. All human endeavors have frontiers, thus there are no limits to the types of frontiers available for study. In this project, students are responsible for researching a frontier of their choice and creating a multi-genre book as a final product. The process includes an integrated humanities/science unit on the Apollo 11 landing on the moon as a model for the study of frontiers. From that point, students are introduced to several different types of frontiers, within specific disciplines, in preparation for their individual research and multi-genre book. Each student makes their own book or collaborates with another student. The books included elements of traditional research papers, but allow for the creative use of images, poetry, fiction, and other genres, as a means of expressing ideas and knowledge.
