Bonapartism
During the Bonapartism project students conducted comparative historical analysis to determine whether the Egyptian Revolution of 2011 followed the same patterns as the French Revolution of 1789. Students were asked to consider the following questions: How can the past inform the present? Do revolutionary processes follow similar patterns or does each revolution follow its own dynamic? Did a Bonaparte figure emerge in Egypt?
Students presented their research in the form of creative monologues that were written from the perspective of historical actors, in addition to writing a formal argument essay. The monologues and videos were presented in three different ways: 1) During our exhibition of learning the videos were projected with a mixture of live narration and readings from primary sources from students who were sitting with the audience. 2) The individual monologues were put together into a video series that included slide-show images and voice-over narration. 3) The monologues, narration, and primary source selections were complied in a book that is available on Amazon.com.
