Faces of Consumption
Faces of Consumption was a project developed by my 10th grade humanities class in collaboration with the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, San Diego. The project was displayed at the Science Center between December 19, 2012 and February 10, 2013.
The exhibit consisted of visual art and a multimedia kiosk.
Forty-eight posters (one for each student) covered three walls. The posters were divided into three panels or triptychs: a photo of the student-consumer, an image representing the impact of his or her consumption habits, and written content related to the student's consumption. Interspersed with the students' panels were questions and mirrors designed to elicit reflection by the museum viewer related to his or her own habits of consumption.
The students created this exhibit hoping to inspire the museum guests to ask the same questions they asked of themselves:
Who are you?
What do you consume?
What is the impact of your consumption?
What are you going to do about it?
We invite you to do the same.
